Mugoli Samba is a Toronto-based journalist and media futurist.

I spent 4 years as an editor at Apple News, where I helped curate the best of local, national, and international journalism for millions of Canadian readers in English and French. I also oversaw the curation of three weekly newsletters and led the editorial programming for major cultural moments.

Prior to joining Apple, I worked as a broadcast and print reporter for The Globe and Mail, CBC/Radio-Canada, and more. My magazine feature writing has earned a Canadian Church Press Award and an honourable mention at the National Magazine Awards. I'm also a National Magazine Awards juror.

I am fluently bilingual (EN/FR) and have reported across all mediums – print, radio, TV, digital.

A skilled moderator and interviewer, I’ve hosted live conversations with figures such as Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Maestro Fresh Wes, and more.

I’m on a career break. Undertaking some much needed self-directed studies and conducting experiments. Preparing for the next chapter of my career. Looking to do work that works for, not against, the interests of the global majority amid the compounding crises of our times.

I’m curious about the future: tech policy, new media approaches, the ongoing A.I. v. humanity debate, and who exactly is coming along in the future we are racing towards. Will report back with more findings.

I have not managed to internalize the brand/visual logics of the Instagram age; they call for a coherent narrative about one’s career and life. That is simply impossible for me to produce. I am not unique in this predicament—we are all complex beings, better experienced in our real, 3D, fully-embodied selves. That is why, depending on the context or what I am called to share about myself at any given time, you may also know me as: a struggling bassist, host of informal listening parties, founder of an ice skating club, former Ottawan who refuses to hate on her hometown... I think all are equally as important to know about me.

Thanks for stopping by.

Here’s a little parting gift.
